Shining the spotlight on this year's Young Guns winners

Young Guns 15, arguably the most prestigious portfolio-based competition for creatives under 30, is going out with a bang! This year's winners were unveiled last week, and it's safe to say that this is one of the most eclectically talented classes in Young Guns history.

Next week is the traditional Young Guns ceremony and party, (you've scored your tickets, right?) and nearly all of this year's winners will be travelling from across the globe, across the country, or across the Williamsburg Bridge to attend. Ahead of the festivities, the One Club for Creativity is highlighting many of the winners you'll be able to meet.

What does winning this award mean to you?

I’ve been working really hard these past years to create a strong body of work that stands for itself. It’s been a long journey, filled with ups and downs, and sometimes I forget the world is watching. This award gives me peace and reassurance that this dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.

"It’s been a long journey, filled with ups and downs, and sometimes I forget the world is watching. This award gives me peace and reassurance that this dedication doesn’t go unnoticed."

What sorts of challenges have you encountered to get where you are today?

It’s a challenge to navigate the commercial world and all the fear that is infused with it. That has been the greatest challenge this year; to create something as soulful as my own passion projects, but for a major brand and being able to inspire everyone to tag along and follow my vision. I think that  believing in my idea 1000% and keeping a fun and inspiring energy around my projects has been key.

Can you name any past Young Guns winners who you look up to?

I’ve always been inspired by The Daniels (YG14)! They are amazing and perhaps borderline crazy. Their work always surprises me and inspires me to think differently and find my own voice. Mad props to them for being some of the greatest there is.

What keeps you going, creatively speaking? What drives you and your work?

I enjoy the creative process, to see an idea materialize into something more physical. It’s fascinating to be able to have a vision and see it come to life. I love it and I love the challenge that comes with it. How do you capture an emotion? How do you give people goosebumps? It’s an addiction for sure and it helps to push me outside my comfort zone.

Now that you’re a Young Guns winner, what’s next?

I want to continue pushing past my comfort zone and try new things, to bigger than before, to see how far I can go with my filmmaking and enjoy the journey and the people I meet along the way.

Maceo and his fellow winners will be honored at the Young Guns 15 Ceremony + Party, taking place on Thursday, November 16 at Highline Stages in Manhattan's Meatpacking District.

Young Guns 15 is presented in proud partnership with Shutterstock, Levene/Leavitt and MTV.
