Richard Turley

Executive Creative Director

Wieden+Kennedy

New York

In 2010 Turley was appointed Creative Director of Bloomberg Businessweek after the Bloomberg LP purchase to work on the multi-award winning redesign of the magazine with editor Josh Tyrangiel. That complete redesign and the subsequent creative direction of the publication has been described as pushing the boundaries of traditional newsweekly and business magazine design. Eye magazine wrote of the magazine that "Bloomberg Businessweek's pages explode with the energy of breaking news, editorial intelligence and design experiment, while achieving perfectly detailed typography. Turley's art direction is a sign that mainstream magazine design is still alive."

In 2011, the magazine and advertising icon George Lois described Businessweek covers as "The best consistent set of covers in 40 years".

Prior to coming to New York, Turley worked at the Guardian newspaper in London. During his tenure there, he most recently served as art director of G2, the daily features magazine. Between 2003-2005, as a senior designer, he worked with the then creative director Mark Porter on the newspaper's much-lauded redesign. Turley was hottest Creative Player in the 2011 Adweek 'Hotlist', and at the end of last year he named one of the 'Verge 50'. Whilst not being entirely sure what this list was about, he none-the-less came in at 46, one above Lena Dunham. 32 places behind Edward Snowden and 23 behind Pussy Riot, allowing him ample growth opportunities in future years.

In 2014 he was hired by MTV as their first SVP of Visual Storytelling, building an experimental content workshop that linked the TV channel to social platforms, creating multiple daily videos, stories, ideas, imagery and began as bumpers on MTV then spread to assorted socail media platforms.

In October 2015 he created MTV No Chill, a month long takeover of the channel between 6-8pm. MTV re-runs were cut up and remixed, spliced together, graffiti'd over, re-appropriated and blended with music video, live music performances, original short form video, animation and sketches. Commercial breaks were broken apart and more short form programming and messaging pushed inside, the show felt like an assault, an intervention, overlaid with live social feeds and real time interactions with it's audience - the people who made it talking directly to the people watching it.

Richard lives in the West Village, New York with his wife and son. He is a member of AGI.
