DE-DE

Brooklyn

Hashem has worked for over a decade at the convergence of technology and communications. Over his career he has combined skills in strategy and execution to create marketing campaigns, to build digital products and to operate startup businesses.

In 2011, Hashem founded DE-DE (short for Design & Develop), a New York-based product development studio While CEO of DE-DE, Hashem led engineering and design teams to build digital products and early stage startups that combine brand and technical craft. The company's first product, a tool to amplify social media called Thunderclap, grew to 1 million unique users per month and used by everyone from the White House to Richard Branson to Beyonce. Hashem created financial value for DE-DE and its investors by closing an acquisition of the company's second product, a mail app for iPads called Birdseye, to Russian technology giant Yandex — an 8X return on investment.

In 2012, Hashem and the DE-DE team were recognized for their innovative approach, being named one of FastCompany's "13 people who made the world more creative." In 2013, DE-DE won the Cannes Festival of Creativity's first "Innovation Lion" prize.

Prior to founding DE-DE, Hashem was Director of Digital Strategy at creative agency Droga5, where he was part of the core team that developed the "Jay-Z Decoded" campaign to promote Jay-Z's autobiography. Previous to that, Hashem built digital as a discipline from the ground up at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, then a 25-year old TV-centric ad agency. While there he helped lead the creation of HP's "The Computer is Personal Again" global brand campaign.

Hashem began his career in communications at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
