Interior architect, Designer and Sculptor, was born in the city of Mariehamn, Finland, May 3, 1962. Lindfors' breakthrough on the international design scene was his lamp "Scaragoo", introduced at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1988, and manufactured by Ingo Maurer GmbH, Munich. Since then, Lindfors has designed furniture, high-end tableware, lamps, fabrics, fashion, mass produced objects, tiles, wallpaper, jewelry, CD covers, posters, book covers etc., for the Finnish and European industries. He has designed interiors for shops, restaurants and corporate headquarters. Lindfors has held numerous critically acclaimed one-man exhibitions on his sculpture and design in Helsinki, Copenhagen, London, Paris, Milan, Frankfurt, New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Tokyo, etc. His permanent public sculpture-installations can be seen in, among other cities, New York and Helsinki. In 1992 Lindfors received the largest cultural award in the Nordic Countries to date: The Väinö Tanner Trailblazer Award. Other major awards are The Triennale di Milano Medal of Honour 1986, The Georg Jensen Prize 1992, Association of Finnish Interior Architects: Best Interior 1993, The Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award 1996, Design Plus, Frankfurt 1999, and the Tokyo Design Award 2001. In 1999 The Arts Council of Finland awarded Lindfors with a 5-year State Artist Grant for his work as Designer and Artist. Lindfors' chair "The Kemper Chair" was the cover object of the International Design Yearbook 1996, and that same year he designed a monumental sculpture for the pavilion of SWATCH at the Atlanta Olympic Games. In 2001, The New York Times declared his sculpture-installation for the façade of The Gershwin Hotel a "New Landmark on Manhattan". In 1993 Lindfors took on the mission to create a new education for design at the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), Kansas City, Missouri. He served as Distinguished Professor of Design and Chairman of the Design Department on a tenure position. His new curriculum was approved by NASAD in 1994, and when leaving the Design Dept. and KCAI after 3 years, in spring 1996, enrollment was up by 34% from his arrival in 1993. In 2002 Lindfors wrote, produced and directed his first film; a 3-minute "corporate identity" short film for Telecom operator DNA Finland. As Director he is now represented by Great Guns, London. His commercial film "Imagewear" for NOKIA was "Spot of The Week" in the film publication The Reel (London) in November 2003, and last year his "Funeral of Hearts" musicvideo (by HIM), received music magazine Kerrang!'s (London) award "Best Music Video 2004". Lindfors maintains an active schedule of lecture- and jury work on the side of his careers as designer, artist and director. He served on the jury for the Cannes Cyber Lions in 2005. Lindfors joined the global advertising network TBWA in 2004, and he served as the Creative Director of TBWA-owned STREAM Helsinki 2005-2006. Lindfors is a member of the European Cultural Parliament founded in 2002.
