Bryan Satalino

Professor, Graphic Design

Tyler School of Art

Philadelphia/USA

Bryan Satalino is a designer, educator, and entrepreneur based in Philadelphia. He earned his BFA from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, and his MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Before pursuing his MFA he worked as a designer and photo assistant in upstate NY, an art director for a boutique firm in Toronto, an art director for a life science magazine, and creative director at an interactive agency in Philadelphia.

He is currently an Assistant Professor of Graphic and Interactive Design at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. He is also the director of The Hatchery, Tyler's Design Incubator. His goal as an instructor teaching entrepreneurship is to inspire students to think independently and to teach them to problem solve effectively. His students are challenged to test their ideas using the concepts of feasibility (can this idea be made, or, is it scalable?) and viability (will people want or need this idea?), and to explore how these tests might affect the design and idea itself.

His own work takes a market approach to idea building while incorporating social, political, and environmental ethicality. Most recently he's launched Sol & Luna, an eco-conscious brand of yoga mats designed to make yoga fun and easy for children, and PhillyRow, a multi-disciplinary research project aimed at bringing attention to the virtues of Philadelphia's unique built environment (70% of Philadelphians live in rowhouses). He plans to continue growing as a designer and entrepreneur, and to explore the implications of blending these roles.
