Drowning in Plastic / City of Toronto
Submitted By Chad Burnie
Description
TSAs in Toronto were filled with plastic bottles giving the illusion that the shelter occupant was literally “Drowning in plastic”.
Objective
To encourage tap water consumption by Torontonians who generally drink from plastic bottles.
Technical Challenge
While a photograph would have done, in order to truly illustrate the environmental effects of plastic, one had to be exposed to it in quantity. Standard TSA shelters were replaced with casings that held hundreds of plastic bottles. This process, along with additional lighting and nighttime visibility truly made this piece come to life, but it was not easy.
