The One Show

Apr 25, 2005

NEW YORK (April 25, 2005) - For the first time in its 30-year history, The One Club will host two of advertising's most anticipated awards ceremonies under a single roof. Winners will be announced in One Show, One Show Design and One Show Interactive on May 11th. The ceremonies will be held simultaneously in adjacent theaters in Jazz at Lincoln Center, a dramatic new performance venue in New York City. On video monitors located in each auditorium, attendees at both presentations will be able to view highlights of the best television, print, radio, design and interactive campaigns at the same time.

Winners in all One Show awards competitions receive Gold, Silver and Bronze Pencils, considered the zenith of achievement within the advertising industry. All finalists will receive Merit Awards. The contenders were selected from nearly 17,000 entries worldwide.

"The One Club was the first to acknowledge the profound impact of new media when we launched One Show Interactive eight years ago," noted Mary Warlick, Executive Director of the One Club, the foremost organization for recognizing and promoting excellence in advertising. "By simultaneously presenting the One Show and One Show Interactive awards this year, we recognize the importance of total integration in successful advertising."

There are other landmarks in The One Club's 30th anniversary year. In addition to a new venue and simultaneous awards shows, One Show Design, a competition that recognizes the year's best advertising design, boasted a record-breaking number of entries from 34 countries. Altogether, 58 countries submitted entries in the One Show, One Show Interactive and One Show Design. The One Club has also created its first-ever viral advertising campaign, a tongue-in-cheek spoof of substance abuse in the sports world based on current news headlines.

The entire campaign and the dual ceremonies show where the industry is heading," said David Baldwin, President of The One Club and Executive Creative Director of McKinney Advertising in Durham, NC. "It is no longer about just print and television, but about great ideas. Winning a Pencil can turn the creative agency into an overnight star." Baldwin cited 180 Amsterdam and Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, whose ground-breaking work for adidas and MINI Cooper respectively won each agency top awards in recent years.
