Richard Frankel is Creative Director at Spotify USA. In his role he works across consumer marketing and advertising for Spotify and consults with Spotify’s ad sales team helping to develop great experiences for brands.

Before joining Spotify Rich co-founded Indigenous Entertainment, a marketing consultancy specializing in creating original content and experiences for media companies to offer to brands seeking deeper engagement with their target audiences. Indigenous followed his work at Ogilvy Entertainment where Rich was the new division’s first executive producer. Previously, Frankel’s RFD Productions, developed and produced award winning music TV specials and events. Two documentary / concert specials for A&E, featuring the artist Sting, were accorded 8 Emmy nominations and 4 wins.

Frankel was Managing Director of the LA office of Think New Ideas. Think was among the first Web1.0 integrated mar-com agencies. He ran the Creative Services Group at A&M Records from1983 until 1994 where he oversaw the visual identity of the label and its artists and executive produced scores of videos. Two of these long-form videos were awarded Grammys: “Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation” in 1989 and Sting’s “Ten Summoner’s Tales” in 1993. Many of A&M’s music videos were honored by MTV’s Music Video Awards, including several for artists Sting and Janet Jackson as was Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and Suzanne Vega’s “Luka,” which also won a Mentor Award in 1988.

Before his A&M years, Rich was among the original team that launched and marketed MTV, Nickelodeon and The Movie Channel. As an original creative director at Warner Amex Satellite Entertainment Company, Frankel helped develop trade and consumer marketing for the cable start-ups.
