Juan Carlos Ortiz

President & CEO

DDB Latina

Miami

Juan Carlos Ortiz was the first Latin American to become the President of an Advertising Agency in the United States when he led Leo Burnett USA in 2006. In 2008, he was invited to join DDB Worldwide as CEO of the Latin American offices, where he quickly became a pioneer in uniting the company’s Latin markets around the world (USA, Latin America, and Spain) under a unique vision of culture instead of geography. With this movement, he has inspired Latin creativity, passion, and work to become a global reference. Today, DDB Latina is a united team that has won more than 200 Lions at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. From a regional perspective, it has been recognized as Ibero-America’s Most Creative Network at El Ojo Festival and by Adlatina’s Ranking Crema in 2017, 2019, and 2020. And for the first time in history and under the leadership of Juan Carlos, DDB Latina represented 51% of DDB Worldwide’s creative offer in 2020 at Cannes. Ortiz is known in his natal country for winning the first Gold Lion of Colombia’s history with the famous anti-drug campaign film called: “Dandruff.” He has collected several awards from all over the world and has been President of Jury at Cannes, El Ojo de Iberoamérica, El Sol, and Wave Festival. Ortiz was also member of the Global Effie Awards. Juan Carlos is an inductee of the Hall of Achievement by the American Advertising Federation, and the World Economic Forum at Davos recognized him as a Young Global Leader for his professional accomplishments, commitment to society, and potential to contribute towards shaping the world’s future. He is the author of the trilogy of books: Shorts, Shorts and a 1/2, and ShortsX2, all written on his mobile phone at 30,000 feet above ground during his business trips around the globe. Forbes magazine listed his book, Shorts, as the postmodern book in 2011. In 2014, Ortiz was invited to take upon the role of Creative Chairman of DDB Americas to merge the creative teams of North America, Spain, and Latin America. In 2018, Juan Carlos led the strategy and creative campaign of the current President of Colombia, Ivan Duque. More recently, in 2020, he was named one of Forbes 50 Creatives from Colombia; the list that highlights the most influential Colombian talent around the world. Juan Carlos is also a columnist of El Espectador newspaper and Soho magazine, two of the most important publications of Colombia.
