FIRESIDE CHAT #3: THE MAGIC OF THE DYNAMIC DUO

Mulder & Scully, Brian & Stewy, heck even Ben & Jerry. Sure, each is great on their own. But together, they are unstoppable. And creativity and business are no different. Sure, creativity shows up to work in Vans and a beanie while business thinks style is something you do to Excel spreadsheets, but their differences are actually what make them the perfect pair. Because when it comes to running a successful agency, you’re most definitely going to need both.

This is what we covered in our most recent Fireside Chat moderated by Cactus’ own dynamic duo, Jeff Graham and Norm Shearer. Our panel this time features CEOs and CCOs from two of the most well-respected agencies: Judith Carr Rodriguez and Mark Figliulo from FIG, and Rebecca Armstrong and Mark Ray from North.

The discussion kicked off with a short clip from The Drum that helped set the tone for just how powerful partnerships can be. From there, we talked about how big decisions are bound to come your way, so it’s important to make sure you’re working with someone you trust implicitly. And when it comes to navigating disagreements or trying to find the right path, that trust in each other and those you’ve gathered around you is your best tool for moving forward.

One of the best stories came from Mark Figliulo from FIG. He said that early on in their agency’s beginning, they were supposed to be a part of Publicis. But once they started working with the agency’s lawyers and finalizing the deal, they realized that it did not quite feel like them. He was unsure of what to do. But his partner, Judith, did. She was firm that it was not a good deal for them, and that they should back out and go independent. He trusted her intuition and they went out on their own. Today, they are both so grateful for that choice and consider it one of the greatest decisions they’ve ever made. For this and many, many other stories, be sure to check out the full video below:
